America – the near future – the United States has experienced a complete economic and social collapse, clean water and abundant food, relics of a dying age. Small groups of survivors struggle to stay alive in a world rampant with starvation, disease, and violence. “Travelers” live amongst them, savage gangs that roam the countryside, always searching for fresh prey.
Traveler is the follow up to John S. Wilson’s bestselling novel Joshua, not a sequel but set in this same deadly world.

Traveler eBook John S Wilson
I enjoyed the first book on this series - Joshua - very much. Even though the post-apocalyptic world portrayed was dark, The Man and Joshua brought hope and light."Traveler" is a follow-up book to "Joshua" and the two books are totally different. This is a relentlessly dark book, with evil at the forefront.
It tells of terrible choices made by ordinary people in order to survive and provide the most basic of living essentials - food, water, clothing, warmth, shelter. What part of our humanity is it okay to give up in order to survive?
Excellent writing, some twists and turns I didn't see coming, a somewhat sympathetic protagonist. I'm glad I read "Traveler" even though I don't know if I enjoyed it.
NOTE: There is a lot of violence portrayed in this story, including rape and mutilation.

Traveler eBook John S Wilson Reviews
I like the end of the world genre, it opens up so many possibilities with a story. Wilson's other book, "Joshua" is also very good. If you like this type of story, this book is written pretty well and does keep the attention.
Text errors aside, this is the story of the travels and travails of James, from when he first joined Rob's ragtag team of murderers and plunderers. It is a story about people in a post-Apocalyptic world, trying to redefine their civilization, culture, and laws.
I felt trapped into finishing in one sitting. The entire time my imagination was captured I was think of how to fortify my land against marauders. I give 3out of 5 stars because the first Joshua is hard to out do. J.L. Farrell
This is a very well written book, it is funny, it has suspension, and will bring tears to your eyes. It is very believable and something you can see.
I read Joshua, and like others of have said this book tells the side of the dirt bags of the worlds during a situation like this.
Rape, murder and maiming.
It is the book that does not tell the story of the good guys and how they win.
IF the SHTF I think many would end up being like main people in story.
I am still glad I read it and have learned some things I never thought about.
I loved Joshua, an earlier work by the same author, so as soon as I knew about Traveler I didn't hesitate. I suspect many potential readers will come to this work in the same way. There is much to love about Traveler - but be warned it is not Joshua. For me Joshua resonated with a depth of emotion, and Traveler doesn't quite achieve this. That said it is still an enjoyable read.
Without any spoliers - Traveler provides insight into the justifications that people use for their actions. This is an interesting approach. Novels in the Post - Apocalyptic genre normally examine in-depth the journey of the 'good guys', Traveler also follows the 'bad guys' and the logic that can be employed to justify even the most abysmal actions. This of itself is interesting. In Traveler the main character, James, tries to maintain a thread of humanity in a tapestry of survival, ruthlessness and hardship. That this thread is not broken and becomes stronger as the story unfolds is, at least acoording to this tale, a testament to the power of good. The story shifts about half way through. The later part of the book presents a more positive view of humanity but also demonstrats how quickly this humanity can fall away.
Overall I enjoyed this book. I am a voracious reader of the PA fare, so I have a good share of novels I can compare it with. I'd say Traveller is one of the better PA reads. It is well written, the characters are well drawn and there is enough going on to keep the readers' interest. It probably suffers a bit because most readers will compare it to Joshua - and in such good company it does come up a little short.
Certainly worth buying and I look forward to future work by this author.
I truly enjoyed this book. Mr. Wilson presents the very dark side of those who would, and will, take advantage of those who have, and of those who are weaker. Instead of the whole family, group, friends prepper thing, with plenty of money to purchase supplies, weapons and ammo, with tons of food for years, this story portrays the vilest, most dangerous and cruelest humans of them all...those with no morals or ethics. This story is about those who prey against all mankind, only to gain what they want and to take from those who are trying to survive like everyone else.
Included in the story are those who are innocent (to some extent), but are manipulated into becoming more than their conscience can fight. Grown men achieving their dangerous and murdering goals by using children as their "in" to get what they want.
I really appreciate Mr. Wilson writing a story about the "other side" of a post-apocalyptic story. This story is not about hero's or those defending the weak with great compassion and fortitude. No, this is a story about people losing all aspects of their inner self, giving up on their humanity just to cause others to feel the pain and loss of dignity. In a real life situation, this will happen.
As to the God aspect of this novel. I believe it presents a well thought out premise that; even though one may allow themselves to become something other than what they don't want to be, it also shows that, as humans, and as some who have been brought up with a Biblical foundation, that the conscience can assist one to come back into proper alignment with these attributes. Sure, there are some who don't believe in any of that...and that's okay. Take the story for what it is, don't over analyze it and just enjoy the read.
Looking forward to more of Mr. Wilson's writings.
