One summer is all they have ...
Lance is a notorious player on and off the football field who never sees a girl more than twice. But with graduation now behind him, his days of carefree flirting are numbered. As soon as his summer internship is over, his parents expect him to return to Texas to take his place in the family business. He’s done everything he can to delay the inevitable, and he’s determined to live it up his last summer as his own man.
Abby comes from a world where men don’t stick around. Lance’s interest does nothing but put her on guard, especially when she finds out he’ll be leaving in less than two months. With two years left of college and a mom who relies on her for everything, Abby doesn’t have the patience for relationships that are doomed from the start. But Lance's persistence wears down her defenses. Abby convinces herself they’ll just have a summer fling, and she’ll be able to come through unscathed.
Will Abby be able to maintain her distance? Or will they both be heartbroken when the summer ends?

Q&A with Jerica MacMillan
Q What’s special about the Players of Marycliff University series?
A When I wrote these, I wanted them to be highly relatable. Yes, the guys are all hot college football players, but they have normal struggles with balancing school, family, and career goals with their personal relationships. Since it’s college romance, there’s a big emphasis on figuring out what you want out of life, but I think that’s a theme that resonates long past college age.
I do consider them a sports romance, but the football isn’t really the focus of the stories. The focus is on the characters and their relationships.
Q What is the best order to read the books?
They’re all interconnected standalones, so it’s not completely necessary to read them in order, though I think it provides the best experience if you do. They were written and published in the following order
Summer Fling
Convenient Fall
Managed Hearts
Q Why should readers give these books a try?
Because they’re awesome!
In all seriousness, if you like steamy college romance with just the right amount of angst, then these books are perfect for you. The heroes are all hot college football players, and the heroines are spunky, sassy, and not afraid to stand up for themselves. They’re your new best friends just waiting for you to come and hang out!

Summer Fling sucked me in from the beginning and didn't let go! I probably could have read it in one day but sadly I had to work and sleep a little.
I thought it was cute how Lance was insecure about Abby at the beginning. He had serious doubts in his head! I loved how gentlemanly he was towards her and always thinks about how he doesn't want to scare her away. I also enjoyed how he figured out how to get her to go out on a "date" with him each time. It left a little smile on my face! When she snubs him the first time he tries to kiss her....Lance is flummoxed! I mean who WOULDN'T want to kiss him? He is popular, good looking and from the football team!
Abby is kinda funny in how she treats Lance. She doesn't NOT like him but isn't sure she should either. So she treats him with indifference and he really has to work hard just to have a conversation with her. She also is quite snarky and sassy with him.
Her relationship with her friend Megan is so so girlish! I love how they help each other when it's needed. Then add in Chris and Matt, Lances roommates, and fun things happen. The boys look out for Lance and Megan looks out for Abby. I loved their group hug! It was nice to see the boys affected also.
I laughed, teared up and chuckled throughout this book. The writing flowed and kept my interest through the book. I have not read this author before but I will be checking out more from her!

Summer Fling Players of Marycliff University Book 1 eBook Jerica MacMillan Reviews
Summer Fling (Players of Marycliff University #1)
By Jerica MacMillan
5 Stars
Summer Fling by Jerica MacMillan is a five star read and is part of an amazing series. I have read others in this series, and finally decided to go back to the beginning. This story did not disappoint. Abby and Lance are an amazing couple and the story of their relationship just flowed.
Abby had to grow up quickly basically being a parent to her parent but now she is at college and her roommate Megan wants her to get out and have fun, but it’s hard to when you are used to being the responsible one. Abby is dragged to yet another college party with a bunch of drunks, and of course a drunken guy spills drink all over her. Trying to get to the sink she runs into Lance, the campus playboy. He has graduated but as a former football player he is still very popular with the girls. He is shocked that this beautiful girl doesn’t know who he is or even care. That makes her very intriguing and Lance wants to get her to change her mind. But, Abby doesn’t make things easy for him and he finds that he really want to get to know her and spend time with her.
So what happen when the player wants to be taken serious? What happens when real life comes to call and you have to make grown up decisions?
This author does an amazing job of weaving a story with humor, romance, and a little bit of conflict. I highly recommend this story and the entire series.
Lance, newly graduated football hero, is looking forward to a dull future as obligatory assistant/worker in his dad’s auto repair shop in Denton, Texas, despite his gifted nature in business, due to a commitment he made to his parents in exchange for their paying his college tuition. Abby is about to start her junior year of college (a Spanish major), struggles with a difficult relationship/dynamic with her family, and isn’t quite sure what she’s doing post-college, besides stay close to home. Lance and Abby meet at a party and their first meeting is extremely cute, flirty, and well-written.
Minor spoilers based on character growth only (no plot twists or points revealed)
I couldn’t tell if it was the writing itself that felt youthful or if it was the characters that felt immature. But something just wasn’t jiving with me. Example paragraph (very early in, so no spoilers)
“Abby stared out her window, trying to puzzle through this evening. Maybe she was just too much of a pushover. First, Megan coerced her into going to a party with her. Then after running into Lance she got pushed into going out for pie wearing his t-shirt. …. She couldn’t figure out was why Lance wanted to take her out… and he kept touching her. They were all innocent touches.”
I wasn’t bonding with this girl right off the bat. To feel like a guy is getting pushy because he’s gives you a t-shirt to wear (when yours is wet and sticky) and takes you out to pie? (Wow, what a jerk…. Um what? That was adorable and gentlemanly.) He pushed her into it? Sad face. It made a really sweet and flirty scene kind of sad and lame because she didn’t like it, get it, or appreciate it. Takes the flirt right out. Also, this girl’s maturity level was more like a freshman in high school than a girl mid-way through college. She seriously can’t figure out why he wants to take her out or touch her? She has to puzzle through this? Ugh. This was more appropriate for Young Adult, not New Adult.
End of mild spoilers.
Basically the novel followed this pattern. Lance was pretty great (no complaints), and I liked his roommates, and I liked Megan (her roommate) but I just wasn’t bonding with Abby. She was just immature, sort of cold, and grumpy but with no good reason. I will say that the ending really picked up for me and I liked it a great deal. But there was a good portion of the book I was struggling to get along with Abby. On the whole it was average, as well, because the plot was very light. Just nothing really happening in this one. If there's no plot or action of events, you should have really spectacular chemistry and characters to make a book really good. Since I didn't really jive with these ones, it was just okay.
